Sri Lanka - Program

  1. Working in the orphanages:

There are many children in Sri Lanka who are orphaned, underprivileged or street children. These children are sheltered by the orphanages of Sri Lanka with the assistance of various organizations. Our volunteers will work in these orphanages doing various kinds of jobs such as teaching English, helping with homework, assisting in other activities including games, sports, arts & crafts and local trips. Your optimistic views and stories would create a positive impression. Working with them is truly a rewarding job. As well as teaching, you can help the administrative staff coordinate activities.

  1. Teaching Young Monks:
Sri Lanka is the centre of Buddhist culture. Here our volunteers teach English to adorable Lankan Monks. The monks range in age from 7 to 18 years. Volunteers work in a temple/school for Buddhist Monks in either Galle or Kosgoda located about 100 km south of Colombo. Volunteers will teach about 4 hrs/day and with weekends free.  The volunteers aid in the development of their spoken English which further creates self-confidence. You need not be an English Major. Basic English lessons such as common sentences will encourage them to use the language more often. You can offer the local staff assistance with teaching methods and activities. The more the children are immersed in English the more ease they will gain in speaking it.
